Is Aishwarya Rai Being Used?

What do Karisma Kapoor, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre, and Lara Dutta all have in common?

Well besides being well-known Bollywood personalities, in recent weeks they've also all come to the defense of Aishwarya Rai. Aishwarya, as everyone knows, has taken quite a drubbing in the press over her weight, with a variety of media outlets chastising the new mother over her refusal to diet herself into oblivion just months after giving birth.
But do these actresses have other motivations? After all, Aishwarya gets more international publicity than almost any other Indian film star, and her media spotlight domestically is just as large. Attaching your name to hers gets you automatic publicity.
And coincidentally each of these ladies used their comments in defense of Aishwarya as a jumping off point to talk about their careers and projects. Karisma Kapoor interjected herself into the weight debate just before her comeback flop...er...film, Dangerous Ishq, released. Lara Dutta's defense of Aishwarya came during promotios for Dutta's new prenatal yoga book (and during those promotions she of course managed to point out that she hadn't personally gained any weight during her pregnancy because she exercised, unlike Aishwarya).
Pooja Bhatt jumped on the bandwagon, as did Sonali Bendre (who managed to turn the discussion into one about her plans for the future and her role as a judge on India's Got Talent). These women would never get a front page mention without attaching themselves to Aishwarya.
So are they using Aishwarya to get publicity for themselves? Or are they generally concerned about the way she's being treated?
Probably a little of both.
